I have 30+ years as a private lesson educator where I have melded performance, research, and a variety of teaching experiences into an approach that is adaptable to each individual student’s needs. I am happy to be able to share my knowledge on Vancouver Island, BC Canada, and have a passion for engaging with the virtual education world. I’m an advocate for quality of teaching, advocate for the student experience, and an advocate for inclusivity as everyone has their own unique approach to learning and engaging with music.
Four points on engaging with music:
- it’s not about competition with others, but we are in competition with ourselves as we push ourselves to be better.
- it’s not about sports, but we develop coordination with hand/eye; small muscles; and our abilities in stability and stamina.
- it’s not about languages that we speak, but it is a language that we can use to express ourselves and communicate with others.
- most importantly, it IS about the collaborative skill development that we learn, which includes how to negotiate and work with people with differing needs and agendas.
