Union Bay Hall – Rhythm in Music Performance Classes

Comox Valley Drum and Movement Classes

The Comox Valley Drum and Movement Classes introduce a variety of drumming and percussion techniques to be combined with our own individual inner pulse, in order to develop our musical language. This is realised through simple movements in the creation of music both as soloists and in groups.

Improvisation and Composition with Found Objects

  • Vancouver Island University, Highschool, Nanaimo BC (2019)
  • Atmosphere Gathering, Cumberland BC Canada (2017)
  • Quadrapalooza, Quadra BC Canada (2017)

Beau will be leading the workshop group with “found percussive objects” through musical improvisational performances. Using percussion instruments and movement, he will demonstrate the adaptation of these objects to musical concepts including rhythm and melody. Workshop attendees will be encouraged to bring or use objects provided, such as small percussive implements, drums and shakers. Together in small groups, the creation of musical composition will take place through exploring and controlling the sound possibilities of their instruments. This component will then work towards short performances as well as a full “found object orchestra”. Group cooperation and listening will be emphasized as integral skills in this workshop. Beau may even experiment in adding his live electronics, time permitting!
